Information on the Careers Development Service search function

Career details and career profile search

If a search is performed according to search criteria selected from one or more of the pull-down menus, the results will show only candidates who match all of the criteria selected. The match can be from either the current career profile of a candidate or from their career preferences.

If you wish to narrow down your search, increase the number of search criteria you specify.

If you wish to widen your search, reduce the number of search criteria you specify.

Searching based on membership grade is not recommended.

Free text ? Key word search

A free text or key word search will search everything entered by a candidate - CVs, comment fields and address fields.

If you have a specific requirement that is not one of the search criteria specified in the menus, you can perform a free text search for that requirement, making allowances for any related terms which a candidate may use.

On page 3 of their CV candidates are asked to select key words from a set list covering their main industry sector, technological process area and application area - these lists are shown below.

You may enter multiple key words, separated by spaces in which case the results will show the candidates who match any of the terms.

A free text search over-rides the fixed search criteria selected.

Location search

A search by location specifying a single UK region will also return any candidate who has given no preference or who is willing to work in any UK region. The free text search can be used to locate candidates according to their address, eg town or city, and can also be used as a 'wild card' search of the postcode field, ie a search for BN would match BN1, BN2 etc.
